Privacy policy
What I know about you.
Very little, on purpose. Here's the full version, written in plain language by the people who run me.
Version 1 · Last updated 13 October 2026
The short version
- Your birthdays, contacts, notes and saved wishes stay on your phone. We never receive them.
- When you press Generate, the details for that one wish go to our AI provider to write the draft. We don't keep them.
- We use an anonymous install ID to count your free wishes. No account, no name, no email.
- No ads. We don't sell data or track you across other apps.
Who we are
Budbud is made by IZIKEY, a sole proprietorship (eenmanszaak) registered in the Netherlands, KVK number 42052137. IZIKEY is the controller of the personal data described here. Contact: hello@getbudbud.com.
What stays on your phone
Names, birthdays, relationships, notes, wishlists, reminder settings and the wishes you save are stored only in the app's own storage on your device. If you let Budbud read your contacts, it reads them on the device to find birthdays and never uploads them. Backups you export are files you keep wherever you choose; we don't receive them.
What leaves your phone, and why
Wish requests
- What
- The first name, age turning (if known), relationship, the text you typed in "What should Budbud know?", your mixer settings and the app language.
- When
- Only when you press Generate or Generate again.
- Who
- Our server (a Cloudflare Worker), which passes the request to Anthropic to write the draft and runs a safety check on the result.
- Kept
- We don't store the content. Short technical logs are deleted within 7 days.
Anonymous install ID and wish count
- What
- A random ID created when you install the app, and how many wishes it used this month.
- When
- With each wish request.
- Who
- Our server (Cloudflare) and our database (Supabase, EU region).
- Kept
- While you use the app. Deleted after 12 months without activity.
Reports
- What
- The AI draft you reported and the reason you picked.
- When
- Only when you report a draft.
- Who
- Our server and database.
- Kept
- Up to 12 months, to review and improve safety.
Purchases
- What
- Your purchase receipt and an anonymous app user ID. Google handles payment; we never see your card or your Google account details.
- When
- When you buy or restore Premium.
- Who
- Google Play and RevenueCat, which manages subscriptions for us.
- Kept
- As long as tax law requires (7 years in the Netherlands).
Crash reports
- What
- Device model, Android version, app version and the technical error. No birthdays or names.
- When
- When the app crashes or hits an error.
- Who
- Sentry.
- Kept
- 90 days.
Usage statistics
- What
- Anonymous events such as "reminder test passed" or "wish shared", tied to the install ID. No names or wish text.
- When
- While you use the app. You can turn this off in Setup.
- Who
- PostHog, EU hosting.
- Kept
- 12 months.
Permissions the app asks for
- Contacts (optional): to find birthdays in your contacts. Read on the device only. You can skip this and add people by hand.
- Notifications: to send your birthday reminders.
- Alarms & reminders (optional): so day-of reminders arrive on time when your phone is saving battery.
What we don't do
- No advertising and no advertising IDs.
- No selling or renting of data.
- No tracking across other apps or websites.
- No accounts, so there's no profile of you to build.
- We don't use your wish requests to train AI models, and our AI provider's commercial terms don't allow it either.
Legal bases
Under the GDPR we rely on:
- Performance of a contract: writing wishes you ask for, counting your free wishes, and handling purchases.
- Legitimate interest: crash reports, abuse prevention, safety review of reported drafts, and anonymous usage statistics (which you can switch off).
- Legal obligation: keeping purchase records for tax purposes.
Where data is processed
We use EU hosting where we can. Some providers, including Anthropic, process data in the United States. Those transfers rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct, delete, restrict or transfer your data, and you can object to processing based on legitimate interest. Because we don't know who you are, please include your install ID, which you can find in Setup, when you email hello@getbudbud.com. We reply within one month. You can also complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
Deleting your data
Clearing the app's data or uninstalling Budbud removes everything stored on your phone. What we hold on the server is tied only to the anonymous install ID and expires after 12 months without activity. To delete it sooner, email us your install ID.
Children
Budbud is not intended for children under 16. Its "Kids" tone writes wishes to children; it's used by adults.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. For significant changes we'll also tell you in the app.
